Eliezer: A Faithful Servant

Pastor’s Pen,

This Sunday: Eliezer: A Faithful Servant                                                                          Genesis 24:1-27

Scripture is filled with the accounts of the lives of famous and faithful servants of the Lord… Abraham, Moses, David, Elijah, Peter and Paul are likely all familiar to each of us.

Yet some of the greatest of God's servants, some of the most faithful, are not names we would likely recognize. One such individual, named only once in Scripture, in Genesis 15:2, is Eliezer.  Although he was a Syrian, he had come to believe in the God of the man he served, and although he is not named in Genesis 24, I am among the students of Scripture who believe the servant Abraham sent, mission to seek a bride for his son Isaac was none other than Eliezer.

In fulfilling the task Abraham gave him, Eliezer provides us with a perfect example of how we are to be servants of the Lord God, and witnesses who are sharing the gospel and thereby adding individuals to the church, the bride of Christ our Master.

We appreciate those who help sanitize our facilities for services each Saturday morning in preparation for Sunday worship as well as those who make it possible for us to ‘live-stream’ on Facebook at 10:45 each Sunday morning, and to post each Sunday’s message on our website (www.fccwylie.org) on Sunday afternoons.

When you enter the sanctuary Sunday, after you are given a bulletin, stop by the communion table where the offering plates are located in the rear of the worship center and pick up your disposable communion cup. Then following the service, please dispose of it in the trash can. (Mark 10:45)

We continue to hold our Sunday services with all safety protocols and pre-service sanitizing in place. No Sunday school yet, and the nursery is not available.  We are now following the latest CDC guidelines which allow fully vaccinated individuals to go without masks. We use bulletins printed untouched by human hands, with songs, etc. printed therein, and pre-packaged communion elements. Offering plates are located at the rear, or giving can be done online at www.fccwylie.org.

If you still feel uncomfortable attending, feel free to join our live stream on Facebook, at 10:45 AM, which includes communion and the worship hymns. Or the message is available each Sunday afternoon on our website. (www.fccwylie.org)

Eliezer: A Faithful Servant                                                                                                  Genesis 24:1-27

  • A man of responsibility (1-11)
  • A man of faith (12-21)
  • A man of action (22-25)
  • A man of thankfulness (26, 27)
  • A man of God (28-49)
  • A man of Diligence (50-60)
  • A man of success (61-67)

Concluding observations:

Eliezer modeled  the qualities of servanthood God wants to see in our lives (Mark 10:43, 44)                                                                                                                                                Eliezer’s experience demonstrates how God can guide us in both big and little things in life                                                                                                                                                             Eliezer’s mission reminds us that marriage is a good thing, not for all, and that love may come after marriage (v. 67)
