Christ-like Service

Image
Pastor’s Pen , Sunday:     Christ-like Service                                                Hebrews 6:10; Romans 12:1-21                                                           In many ways, it could be said that we live in a plastic world! From trash bags to water bottles, to automobiles, so much today is made of plastic. I remember my first car—a ’52 Hudson Pacemaker. No plastic in that body! All metal. But today’s vehicles have a significant amount of plastic in their bodies.  Now, not everything plastic is fake, but the terms are often used synonymously. Our 21 st  century world has everything from fake flowers to fake eyelashes to fake designer labels.  So how can you tell a real Christian? Not always by the common metrics of church attendance or giving. But one key evidence of Christian authenticity is Christ-like service! *******   We appreciate those who help sanitize our facilities for services each Saturday morning in in in in in in in in in in in preparation for Sunday

The Road to True Greatness

Pastor’s Pen , Sunday:     The Road to True Greatness                                                       Luke 22:24-27                                                           Not too long ago I heard someone label the time we are living in “the days of mediocrity .”  You’ve probably heard the phrase programmed obsolescence. Whether were talking about automobiles, clothing, appliances or whatever, many of not most warranties contain enough loopholes to frustrate the most diligent consumer.   I can recall talking with factory workers who promised they did “just enough to get by,” and that certainly seems true of a lot of political leaders today.    Bottom line: there’s very little in life today that could be termed “great.” However, we serve a great God, and I believe He desires greatness from His children.  In Luke 22,  after instituting the Lord’s Supper, Jesus spelled out the road beyond mediocrity to true greatness.    We appreciate those who help sanitize our facilities for s

Our Ultimate Refuge

Image
Pastor’s Pen , Sunday:     Our Ultimate Refuge                                                                              Psalm 91:1-16                                                           Which would you consider more dangerous, living in the time of David and Solomon? Or living in the 21 st century?    In Old Testament times there were robbers, lions, snakes plagues, and swords. In our day, the hazards include exotic new diseases like COVID and Monkey pox, mass shootings, rampant inflation, road rage, and even the threat of nuclear war.   So how do we respond to these dangers? Live in a fortress? Hire armed bodyguards? No, the ultimate answer for our day, as it was with Moses, David, Paul and other New Testament believers, is simple. Moses nailed it in line 1: God Himself is our ultimate refuge and source of security.  *****   We appreciate those who help sanitize our facilities for services each Saturday morning in in in in in in in in in in in preparation for Sunday worshi
