David's Final Perspective

 Pastor’s Pen…

It was about the year 97 BBC when David reached the end of one of the most full and eventful lives anyone ever lived. The youngest son of Jesse, shepherd, slayer of a giant, musician and attendant to King Saul, fugitive from the King, warrior, and ultimately King over all Israel, David’s life provides us with significant lessons at every turn.

This weekend’s message will look over his life in order to gain an overall perspective and avoid missing some of the most important lessons God would have us to learn. And there is a Christmas connection, in that the babe born in Bethlehem will one day rule on the throne of King David. (See Matthew 1:6)

In the last recorded speech of his life, David demonstrated a superb skill that oratory and shared the conviction of his soul. In doing so he gave us a series of insights that add up to a perspective on this “man after God's own heart.”

We appreciate those who help sanitize our facilities for services each Saturday morning in preparation for Sunday worship as well as those who make it possible for us to ‘live-stream’ on Facebook at 10:45 each Sunday morning, and to post each Sunday’s message on our website (www.fccwylie.org) on Sunday afternoons.

If you haven't come out to worship with us recently, we sure love to have you! We continue to hold our Sunday services with all safety protocols and pre-service sanitizing in place. No Sunday school yet, and the nursery is not available.  We will continue following the protocols as outlined by GA-18 guidance.  Face masks, social distancing, no physical contact. We use bulletins printed untouched by human hands, with songs, etc. printed therein, and pre-packaged communion elements. Offering plates are located at the rear, or giving can be done online at www.fccwylie.org.

If you still feel uncomfortable attending, feel free to join our live stream on Facebook, at 10:45 AM, which includes communion and the worship hymns. Or the message is available each Sunday afternoon on our website. (www.fccwylie.org)

“David’s Final Perspective”                                                                                1 Chronicles 28:1-20

  • David was a man with a heart for God above all (See 1 Sam. 13:14, Acts 13:22)
  • David’s failures always were connected to a failure to consult God or follow God's will (1 Sam. 21, 27, 2 Sam. 11)
  • David failed each time he turned from faith to rely on himself rather than trust God
  • David's greatness can be directly related to his faith, his dependence on God (Hebrews 11:32)
  • David's intense love for God resulted in a giving heart (1 Chron. 29:1-5)
  • David's heart was filled with praise and thanksgiving (1 Chron. 29:10-16)
  • When it comes to David-and us-the heart is the key (1 Chron. 29:17-19)
