The Savior and the Storm

Image
Pastor’s Pen, recently we've spent a lot of time talking about the weather. In fact it's been said that everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it! The past couple of weeks have shown us just how little control we have over temperature, precipitation or storms. And tornado season is just around the corner! Our text this morning demonstrates the point that only God can control the weather. In the aftermath of Jesus teaching through parables about His kingdom , He is about to perform for miracles to demonstrate the validity of His claim to be the Messiah. In them he will demonstrate that he is the master over disaster, over demons, over disease and over death. Thus He is worthy of our worship        (3 :22). This weekend our focus is on the first of these miracles, the stilling of the storm on the Sea of Galilee. In it we learn that the antidote to fear his personal faith and our powerful Savior. ***** We appreciate those who help sanitize our facilities

The Purpose of Jesus' Parables

Pastor’s Pen, Special thanks to those of you who were able to join our Zoom service last Sunday. Thanks to Barbara for setting it up, and to John for an excellent message on Romans one 1:18-32. Hopefully we will be able to re-gather for worship in our sanctuary this Sunday, and if you haven't been with us in person recently, I would warmly welcome and encourage you to bring your mask and join us in a socially distanced service of worship, as we continue our study in the gospel of Mark. One of the tragedies of our time is that multitudes of people gather in places of worship each Sunday to sing hymns and listen to sermons, yet many do not have a clue as to what God is doing during the time between Jesus’ first coming and His second coming. That is actually the point of these parables in Mark chapter 4.  They unveil one of God's “mysteries,” truth that was previously concealed, is now being revealed.  Two weeks ago we examined the first and most foundational of all His parabl

The Suppression Progression

Pastor’s Pen… This weekend we will take a break in our study of the Gospel of Mark, with plans to resume next Sunday February 21 we will continue exploring Jesus’ use of parables and his teaching to clarify truth to those who respond to Him in faith, and to conceal truth to those who persist in rejecting Him. Kathy and I are taking a break this weekend, including from radio, where we will have a pre-recorded program featuring Dr. Greg and Erin Smalley on Love and Marriage. John Royal will be speaking today on “ The Suppression Progression ” from Romans 1:16-32 . I would encourage you to be present either in person or through our live Facebook feed as John explores this important New Testament passage, which provides clear answers to much of what we see in our troubled world today. If you haven't come out to worship with us recently, we sure love to have you! We continue to hold our Sunday services with all safety protocols and pre-service sanitizing in place. No Sunday schoo
